Given the damage and disruption caused by Francis, I wonder how many Big Green Eggs will be called into emergency service while utilities are being restored? A lot, I'm sure. Just another reason to own an Egg. [p]Best wishes to all those who were in Francis's path.[p]Spring Chicken

Spring Chicken,[p]I am hoping to do a little emergency egging this afternoon. [p]I live north of atlanta and lost power this morning about 10 minutes before I normally leave. The wind and rain noise then spooked my 2 1/2 year old, so at 5:45 we were all awake, alert, and waiting for the power to come back on.[p]We finally unhooked the garage door and left around 7am for work, but it was and is still a mess. I shudder to think about how this city would handle an actual crisis. All this was was a little rain and wind. You'd think the apocolypse was upon us.[p]By the way, try explaining no electricity to a 2 1/2 year old. [p]No honey, we can't play reader rabbit. The power is out.
No honey, no tv either. the cable and power are out.
No sweetheart, no dvd's either. no power-no watchy. [p]whew. It's been a long day already.[p]Hope everyone that actually had trouble is okay.[p]

    Mark Backer,
Not to poke fun at your crises, but ummm...well...the rest of the city is not having a crises. [p]I'm sure things will be fine when the power comes back on in a little while, and besides you do have the egg, and that makes up for a lot of things just by itself.[p]:)

Bobby-Q,[p]I completely agree, Bobby-q. My question was what would happen here if there actually WAS a crisis, since everyone in the city freaked out, forgot all traffic laws and drove like lunatics due to a little rain and wind. [p]Drivers in this town scare the crud out of me. seriously.[p]

    Mark Backer,
Ahh yes. I agree completely. Have you been here for a snow dusting yet? We really shine when those come around.[p]But yes I agree, half the people in a rain storm either pull over and stop, sometimes just stop in the middle of the interstate or try and see how many cars can be crammed under an overpass. The other half decide that "well if I could almost make pulling out in front of this guy in perfect conditions, I KNOW I can make it in this monsoon" Those are my favorites.[p]Not to ramble, ok I ramble, but when I got my first new car, as in I drove it off the showroom floor literally, I went up to Gwinnett place to meet some friends for dinner. Well on the way back down after dinner I am driving down 85 right above Spaghetti Junction (and it was misting rain..and I am in the love of my life brand new convertible Mustang GT) and this guy/gal in front of me and 2 lanes over to the right of me just makes a hard left and heads for the concrete divider. Well I started slowing down and quoting the standard party line at that point (Holy this and what the that). I watched as they almost slammed into the barrier, but managed to straighten out and miss it. I was heaving a sigh of relief over their recovery when all of a sudden they make a hard right and shoot 90 degrees right back across the interstate. The only thing I can figure is that they realized they didn't kill themselves or the rest of us on the first pass,so they had make a second go of it.[p]But yea, drivers can be a nightmare when the weather changes.

    Bobby-Q,
Sounds like a soft-tissue malfunction (brain) to me. They do that here in Houston too.[p]Spring Chicken

jwitheld,[p]Same here. I've got a whole freaking Ribeye and four pork loins downstairs, and if my power's not on soon, my neighbors are having the dinner of their lives...
