Slow Thermapen?

I bought a new Thermapen a few weeks ago and had the assumption it'd give me accurate readings within 3 seconds (even says so in front of the package). When I went to check on a chicken thigh, it took about 10 seconds to show me a reading of 165* F. Outside weather was 80*. Does this sound right?

hate to admit it, my new water resistant one does the same thing. old one seemed to jump quickly to the number. now this one crawls two degrees at a time.
i was afraid i was imagining things  -
doesn't sound right to me. mine reads in less than 3 seconds.
what color is yours?
;o) -
i had the same problem. I could go outside and turn the Thermapen on and count to twenty as it slowly counted up the the ambient temp. It was the same with checking food.
Grandpas Grub was kind enought to get me the contact info for Thermoworks and they repaired and returned my unit at no cost to me. They didn't care that I no longer had a receipt. You can call them at 800-393-6434. I spoke with Amber, in service. Now, my very manly, periwinkle colored therapen works as fast as everyone always claimed.
Give them a call. -
Thanks, RVH. I'll give them a call...
FYI, mine is a new waterproof black one. Does this make a difference? -
LOL - my white one does the same - me thinks Thermapen may have a rash of repairs coming their way!Re-gasketing the USA one yard at a time!

Mine does to. I may if it's periwinkle.
:silly: nope their customer service is second to none. Figure of speach but, you get the point. Tim

I don't know anything about the waterproof models but I think they would be as fast as any of the other ones. Now, in Harley-Davidson motorcycles, everyone knows that the black ones are much faster than all the rest.....
