Hey Guys!
Just want to give an update on a couple things... I'll be getting my second egg on friday! Originally we were going to pick up a demo egg at PA eggfest but there is a local dealer who is running a sale. It's a great price so we are going to go ahead and buy it Friday! Decided on a small to go with the large. Plus i wanted something portable, just in case... Now, should i go with a platesetter or gratemates?
Also, if you remember i posted a week or two ago a tree fell on my large. I have since cleared the tree, all is fine.
:silly: I was quite worried.
And one more thing. I'm going to a cookout this weekend and would like to bring something cooked off the egg. A side dish or dessert. I'm thinking I'd like to try a cobbler in the dutch oven. If i do i cook with the top off correct? Or shoud i try something else?
Thanks!

I think most agree that DO cooks are done without the lid in the BGE. Unless you add a lot of wood to your lump, most do not take on much smoke flavor. Adding the lid would slow your cook also.

I would vote for the gratemates and the platesetter. But if I could only have one it would be the gratemates. I use them on every cook.

I've done cobblers in dutch ovens but only using the usual briquettes on top and below, not in the Egg.
I've used the DO a lot in the Egg for other stuff, just never a cobbler. If I was trying it, I'd go with the lid off too.
Glad the tree issue wasn't too bad, I remember those pics. Looked bad.Knoxville, TN

Rooster, glad to see you have been posting a little more. The forum is a better place as a result.
Speaking of Dutch Oven cooking, I have had dreams of your black forest cobbler with home made vanilla ice cream. -
Maybe we should get together and make that happen?
