Cheapest cut of beef you cooked that still was good?

I have been thinking about buying a "cheap", and I mean "cheap" hunk of beef and cooking it on the BGE to see how it turns out. After all, the expensive cuts are great. Just wondering what others have tried and has it worked out.

    jake57,
Sirloin Tip roast for $1.99 lb is the cheapest cut of beef I've done and it was great. Not my favorite cut of meat but still delicious.
Injected with beef broth, apple juice, spices and rubbed with other spices and olive oil.

  • Chuck roll, $1.89 per pound, 75-80% yield, cook to 195 and falls apart. Great for big groups, good replacement for brisket.

    jake57,
You want cheap, try beef shank. This cut of meat is actually tougher than chuck roast and it has a big round bone in the middle. Here is the catch it is very full of big beef flavor. When cooked correctly, it will fall apart like chuck. I have not yet experiment with Beef Shank in the BGE, but I have for some French Provincial Stews that I have made. I have also considered roasting a beef shank.[p]By the way, by cheap I mean a cheaper cut of choice grade beef or better. A prime side of beef still has cheap cuts of meat. With grades of beef lesser than choice, it does not matter much what you do with them it is not worth the time to cook.[p]Hope this helps,

    jake57,
Sorry, I thought you were talking about beef other than brisket. Brisket is the cheapest cut I've done @ $1.28 /lb.
