Multiple Butts...
Msmith
Posts: 21
A couple of days ago, someone on the board mentioned that they could put 4 7-8 pound butts on a large BGE. I need to know how they accomplished this.[p]Thanks[p]

MSmith,
sorry. Try this...[p]It just takes a big ol' grid extender and some finaglin' I think.

MSmith,[p]I am not the one who made the post you mentioned, but I have done 4 in the past at those approx weights. I simply packed them tight in a single layer on the main grid.[p]

MSmith, actually it's right simple. Set up your grill, put two directly on the grill (above your drip pan). then put two more (turned 90 degrees) on top of these two. Watch the stem of your thermometer because it can pierce the meat and give you a reading that makes you think the fire is out. I normally pull my thermometer out an dthen reinsert it to make sure it's not stuck in the meat. You may get a bit of soot on the top two butts but it really doesn't affect anything.

Wise One,[p]are you saying lay them directly on top of the original two, as in no grid extender or anything?

Here is an example of 4 butts on one large BGE! This is after about 20 hours, the finished product was heavenly. [p]

Mark Backer, yes. I have done it with grill extenders and done it without - just laying them on top. The taste, the cooking times and the compliments are all the same. The only problem is that you don't get the good chewy "bark" where the two touch.
