Spring Hen and I just watched Bobby Flay in Memphis. One of his stops was Corky’s Ribs & BBQ. Turns out, Corky’s ships their ribs and pulled pork via FedEx all over the world. We figured it must be good so she told me to order some. WOW!!! $89.99 for three slabs of ribs, a bottle of BBQ sauce and a bottle of seasoning! No way, Jose! I own a Big Green Egg and there are about ten stores within two miles of my house that sells good meat. I think I can make good ribs too, and for a heck of a lot less money. Gonna give it a try pretty soon. The thing is, people must be craving good BBQ if they are willing to pay $90 and wait two days for it. Four or five orders like that and they could own a Big Green Egg and have delicious BBQ anytime they wanted it.[p]Spring Chicken

    Spring Chicken,
I worked at corky's a couple of years ago, and I can tell you the best thing about their ribs is the dry rub. If you want better ribs than you can get at corky's, just get the rub and sauce and make them yourself. The one I worked at is all but closing down because of a Smoky Bones openening up next door... which I think makes much better ribs.

    smokeydrew,
Looks like there's only one Smokey Bones in Texas, up near Dallas, and another one in Baton Rouge. It must be a franchise business. Their web page lets you take a 360° tour. Looks nice. From what I can tell, a waitress serves you instead of going through a line. I prefer "being served" when I am in a restaurant. Their prices are well in line. The only write-up I read gave it very high marks. Am I right so far?[p]Thanks for the tip(s).[p]Spring Chicken

Spring Chicken,[p]When I used to be in computer sales I would send my favorite customers an order from the Rendezvous Restaurant in Memphis. You dial 888-HOGS-FLY or this home page.[p]http://www.hogsfly.com/index_main.html[p]I would send a couple of quick-frozen slabs, sauce and cole slaw and the operations guys would pig out while doing their system upgrades. They loved it!

smokeydrew,[p]We have a Smokey Bones here in Mobile but I was very disapointed. Tough ribs and dry brisket. Every store is different. I think it may have even closed down. We stay home for everything except Mexican and Chinese food now.[p]Semper Fi,[p]MC
  • Spring Chicken,
You go Spring Chicken. I am with you. Ain't NO way in hell I am going so spend that kind of money to taste someone elses ribbs when I know I can do just as well if not better. Another thing, mine are hot when I eat them and didn't have to be re-heated. Go Big Green Egg.One more thing, I can change the flavor of my ribbs anytime I want.
Poor folks that can't cook. lol[p]Jerry

  • Spring Chicken,
We have a Smoky Bones opening soon near my house in Irmo, SC
Will have to try them once. [p]Jerry

Spring Chicken, Every year Corkey's gets voted #1 in memphis. For the life of me I cannot figure out why. When I eat there (because someone else is paying) the meat is flavorless and the sauce is to sweet. Its funny how the truly best ones never seem to make it in the polls. i guess it's all about the money spent on advertising.[p]As far as the SmokeyBones in memphis - it is a perfect example of a corporation trying to mass produce something that can only be done with care and time.[p]There are a couple of places in Memphis where I will gladly pay for the ribs - but like ya'll said - I have an egg !!! Why go anywhere else !!!!!!!!!!!
