For those of you who feed them, have you noticed if the numbers have changed this year? Mine are way down, just wondering.

My count is also down. We usually see increased activity around September-October as they start to migrate south. Hope it picks up.
-
Here in Piedmont of NC I've only seen one or two. Over the three years we've been hosting birds to any large degree have observed two things. What happened to the hummers and where did all the goldfinches go? They get stuck in the oil?
-
We had a high count earlier in the spring, seeing six or so at a time. Now the count is about half that. I'm told that the initial wave of humming birds is made up of those that will stay locally and those that will continue north. Guess we now have the "stay local" group at the feeders. Haven't noticed too much difference from last year. Expect the group size to pick up when they start south and the northern bunch passes through here again.

Our count is way down this year.
. -
YES I have only one with two feeders out.
-
hey Kolbdriver, good to see more Arkies on here.
-
I had a good migration group last fall, just havent seen the number of resident birds I usually have. as hot as its been, they may have continued north
-
I hope so, I enjoy the little fellers
-
 lets hope not
-
Well there must be something going on, maybe winter got them. I normally have four or five resident pairs, and lots of "itinerant" birds, lots of activity, this year I have 1 resident pair, and very few outside birds passing through.
-
The count is way down here in northwest TN also. So few I haven't even been able to get any pictures yet. Mike

Mine too.
-
Last year we had 12 and this year only 1 and he only comes sometime... I think it got too hot too fast for the little guys. Maybe more will come in September.Judy

Our count might be down a bit but not drastically. They seem so territorial about the feeders that each one chases off another as they arrive. I do not remember seeing more than tree at once so far but I will watch.
-
Thanks, I have my feeders scattered around my place and usually have several pairs that each claim a feeder or two. there is usually a lot of activity as they chase each other around, aerial dogfights and so on, pretty cool to watch the little guys.this year I so far have just the one pair.
-
That may be it, it got really hot really fast here to
-
It was slow in the early part of the season but the last month was very active as they prepared to fly south.

Way way down. Whats up?
-
dont know, but its noticable, apparently they are not as thick, at least in the south and southwest
-
The hummingbird population @ the 4000 foot level of Mt. San Jacinto is WAY UP this year. I just put out more feeders, spread them out a bit, change and clean them regularly. I know I have over a dozen regulars, and I wouldn't be surprised if the number is considerably higher. I also have a couple of Orioles and Acorn Woodpeckers that are fairly constant visitors.South SLO County

I love that video Leroy! We get only one at a time here.
-
Way down here too in SW Ohio. I only have the one taking up his usual position but there have only been a few intruders trying to get to "his" feeder this year. Last year there were times I saw 6-8 at a time.
-
I used to get two to three regularly, but have seen only one this year. I have the ruby throated, so I never get more than one at the feeder at any given time.
-
Very cool, and I think y'all get a couple of varieties. we only get the ruby throated here. " they say" if you multiply the number at a feeder at one time by 6, that is the number of "resident" birds you have.
-
nice pic Chris, I guess the ruby throoats are down in pop this year, or going elsewhere
-
Yeah - wide variety here - even a little Rufous, and upon occassion, Calliopies.South SLO County

Mine are about the same.
