Thermopen to calibrate dome

What about simply inserting the thermopen through the hole in the daisy wheel and leaving it inside the dome for a few seconds near the dome temp probe. Would that not be a quick accurate way to calibrate? Of course, if it is off then you will have to remove, but if it is not, it sure seems quick easy and no dirty hands.
I have only seen one poster who says he does this. But it seems so obvious and easy. Removing the dome thermometer and putting in boiling water is relatively easy, but using the thermopen one could calibrate in seconds and do it on every cook. Is there anything wrong with this method?

I would'nt think so.Good back-up check.

I do this all the time. Especially since my original bge thermometer broke.

I don't see why not as long as you keep within the Thermapen's range. The Thermapen is a very versatile device:The Naked Whiz

Actually I got sick of buying dome thermometers and that is all I do to check temperature anyway. Otherwise I keep a little piece of rolled up foil in the dome hole (is that like a pie hole? I LOVE that term.). Anyway, go for it.

Thanks for the advice!

Freddie - An excellent method, but what if your Thermapen is not accurate? I had to calibrate one of mine because it read 12* low.
