this past weekend i cooked 2 9 pound butts side by side on a raised grill, inderect at about 230 F grill temp. when the center of the larger hit 200 i checked the temp in a few places. the sides where the butts were close together (about a half inch separation) were still at 185. for a more uniform cook, do you rotate the meat half way thru the cook, or just leave it alone. i have never cooked multiples before, just one in the center of the grill.

I never bother to rotate them and haven't had any problems. I'm cooking 100 lb. of butts this weekend for 300 people. I'll have four (7 lb. avg.) butts each on four large Eggs.[p]Frosty Ones,

    JSlot,
How do you position your drip pan to take care of 4 Butts at the same time?

MSmith,[p]Without knowing, I am guessing that he employs fire bricks instead of the platesetter.[p]Any truth to that?

I use a plate setter with a 13" x 9" foil pan as a drip pan, the same as I do for a one or two-butt cook. The edges of the butts hang off, but it really doesn't matter. I cook butts at 250° dome and I rarely ever look at 'em until I think they are close to done. We use the same setup in competition.[p]Jim

Addendum: The setup is two butts on top and two on bottom using grid extenders.
