:( Tried making a pizza for the first time yesterday. I have a medium egg and the plate setter. I used my Pampered Chef round cooking stone. It broke into about 10 pieces while cooking the crust. So we ended up using the sausage and veggies that we were going to put on the pizza to make an omelet. Can we use a metal pizza pan. Does anyone know what would have caused the pizza stone to break? The egg was at 450 degrees.

Hi I wish that was a warning that could come with the egg :( PChef just cant take the high heats like that. not that it will help you but if you do a search here on the forum you will see you are not alone lots of others have done the same thing. the pizza stone from BGE are thicker and coarser and can take the heat. the few pieces of PC I use on the egg are only indirect and under 450. Sorry about your stone :(

Spend a few bucks more and get the BGE Pizza stone.

We the members of this forum would have told you to save your money on that pamper chef stuff.

You can use a metal one. Just be sure and give it some air space. Legs up on the platesetter and then the grid, then the pan would work fine. Many use those pizza pans with the screen for a bottom.

Those thin stones just can't take it. It happens quite a bit around here.

I warn against pampered chef stones in my Pizza Hints and Tips page.

You did put the stone in at the same time you lit your egg right? Otherwise a cold stone in a hot egg... well, you know what happened.
