Gasket Replacement on Da Small?

On da small would it be best to completely remove the dome to replace the gasket or not? Seems that all that complaining about not achieveing high temps in small was proly cause I bout completely burnt the back of the eggs gasket plum off. That was before I got my lazy butt out there and lined up the dome better proly too. It don't do some folks a lot a good to know much, if'n they're too lazy to apply it, do it?
