Hi All,[p]I am planning on cooking my first brisket and am looking for suggestions for the best recipe to use.[p]Warning: rambling follows (you can stop here if you like)[p]To put the importance of this brisket in context, what I wish to achieve in cooking the brisket is more slow cooking experience as I prepare (mentally) for the "piece de resistance" - my first pulled pork. [p]I'm also mentally preparing for the pulled pork, as many althetes do, by visualizing the cook. Going through the motions over and over again in my head. I hope that this repeated imagery will build both experience and confidence.[p]One week before the cook I am planning a ritual of daily meditation to bring serenity and calm in my life, to be in the right state of mind when the day comes.[p]Paraphrasing Iron Chef, if ever I can successfully cook pulled pork I will gain the people’s ovation and fame forever.[p][p] [p][p][p]

Topo Gigio,
With all due respect, LOL, I think you had better practice on the pork butt and then meditate and prepare yourself for the brisket. A pork butt is far easier (at least I think so) to do well, than brisket. I still have yet to cook a brisket that I would let my friends see.

Topo Gigio,[p]If you're trying to go in order of difficulty, you're doing it backwards. I think the pulled pork is way easier than the brisket. I'm relatively new, but after five butts, I feel like that's way easier than brisket IMHO.

Whiz, I am yet a grasshopper in the midst of masters, humbled by my novice. [p]Pork Butt here I come!![p]

Topo Gigio,
good luck, take pictures and post them so we can applaud your work...
-
mark, I'm newer than you - point taken.

Mark, only if you promise to humour me and politely applaud if it doesn't turn out.

Topo Gigio,[p]I've found the briskett to be harder to perfect than the pulled pork.. [p]but then, I'm from texas..[p]Good luck..[p]

James, yep, Mark B. and TNW share your sentiment. I had no idea. It'll be a few pork butts before I delve into brisket then.

Topo Gigio,[p]Dude, I had 30 people coming sunday and two butts on, and the fire went out in the middle of the night. You couldn't have driven a nail up me bum with a sledgehammer, I was so nervous. [p]Don't worry. The egg is your friend and more often than not, it will bail you out. [p]Trust the egg, Luke.

LOL. Thanks.
