obviously i got a small problem with two butts that went on around 7:00 last night. One is a #10 and the other #7. thought I would try to figure out this hot spot issue but i got bigger problems now. I got eggor up to 300 trying burn off some nasty smoke quick and when I crashed @ 10 eggor was sitting at 270 dome and dropping slightly so i closed the bottom damper a tad trying to eyeball where i thought would be 230. When i checked @ 3:30 the dome was down to 150 @ the grid only 120. Internall temp of the 7# was 135 and the internall of the 10# was only 125. there were some fat drippings in the drip pan but it would be a guess if the #10 ever got to 140. I am sure the #7 is fine but not too sure about that #10. Well any way I made me a wiggle rod and relit with that propane-copper tube thingy. any way if I had not choked out the fire what temp would the #10 be after 10 hours? Supposed to bring in pork to work monday- would you??[p]Scott

I did a 5.5 butt starting at 9:pm Friday and I finished it at 4:pm Saturday. I used the guru set at 220 and it finished with an internal temp at 190. It was moist and pulled so easy. I would bring the temp up in the 10 and the 7 should be fine.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v326/Cjopa/1stBBQGuruBostonButt009.jpg

Jopa,
Looks good.[p]Can you fill me in on pork and the 140 deg time frame. What I mean is if you are doing a low and slow and are only going at around 200 I wouldn't think a 10# would get to 140 internal especial if it is indirect. I'm not too woried about either roasts actually the 10# just hit 170 and is looking very good.[p]Scott

eggor,
I don't understand the 140 degree time thing. I suggest you bring the temp up a little more 220 and let it cook till 190. I cooket it indirect and it pulled easy, was very moist, and tasted great.I think you are going have great results.
