Eggwannabe, the word on this forum is the big daddy will be out in one month. The Egg can get plenty hot to sear. I'm happy when mine's at 650, but others go well beyond that. [p]In my 9 months' experience, the magic of the egg is not in high temps, but in longer, smokey cooks.

Eggwannabe,
xl version is due out near the end of this month. .. [p]its easy to get an egg to 750 - 900 degrees without help. . .plenty hot enough for searing. . . with a little fan blowing in the bottom vent, you go upwards of 1000 degrees easy. . [p]here is a couple of 2" NY strips being T-REXed (a way of doing steaks) at around 900 degrees. ..before and after being turned. .

Borders,
I think the magic is the ability to do both, well.

Madhatter,
My sentiments exactly! I can think of very few things that the BGE can't do, including "set it and forget it"
