On Strike...it's not my fault!
In a sub-plot too complicated to get into, the architect says that the addition/deck will not be able to be started until NEXT SPRING. So...the concrete slab's gone, the back area's devoid of turf, and the access to my Eggs is now a sea of mud. The Eggs have been moved and are somewhere behind a blue spruce; I can't even see them from the kitchen. [p]Okay, I'm not a whiner, and there isn't anything I can do personally to remedy this terrible situation. I decided to make the best of a bad situation. So...last night I seasoned chicken thighs with rub, set them on a rack in the indoor oven at 450, roasted them until 160, drained the fat, added a really good Asian plum sauce, and let them finish to 180. The result was a pan of beautiful chicken, tender, juicy, well-browned. AND COMPLETELY DEVOID OF FLAVOR. We decided it tasted like cafeteria food. [p]The result of this one glimpse of Life Without Eggs? I get a temporary deck, to be started immediately. Should be done when we return from Ireland.
Cheers,
Gretl

Gretl Collins,
one word . . . ."plywood". . .lay a bunch of it out there. . .or move the eggs to the driveway. . .or, pay wess b. to come up and build you a tiki bar. .

mad max beyond eggdome,[p]I like that idea much better. WessB, I have two questions: [p]Where do you live and how much do you charge?
-
Gretl Collins,[p]I share your pain. Day before yesterday I was reduced to cooking pork chops on a (gasp) gas grill. Absolutely beautiful! With so little taste I might as well have been eating tofu from the package.[p]Soon, though, very soon I'll be Egging again.[p]Ken

WessB,
Aw, shoot. I was hoping you'd come North! You have such a great setup. I'm envious as all get-out.
Cheers,

Gretl Collins,[p]BBQ Bob (remember him from Farmer John's last year) was saying the other day that when he did simple burgers and hot dogs on his egg he couldn't believe the difference.[p]Is this an Irish music tour?
-
aka Mr. Earl ,
Yep. Dan's competing in the All-Ireland festival. And, of course, playing at pubs! Doting parents will not take instruments, but will drink Guinnesses in the pubs while he plays. Works for me.
Cheers,
G.

Gretl Collins,
I'd get a new architect/sub contractor. [p]Mike in MN

Gretl Collins,
OK, everyone is right ... once you go egg you can't go back. I can't remember the last time my stove/oven was used for cooking any kind of meat. I even did some meatballs on the egg the other night. We wanted some spaghetti and I decided on smoked meatballs. Talk about good ... made my tongue nearly slap my brains out.
