corned beef brisket?

i was going to undertake my first brisket tomorrow - my wife was going to Kroger so I asked her to buy a flat brisket - not knowing better, she came back with a pre-packaged corned beef brisket
if I do not use the seasoning, will I still get a regular brisket?
I admit to be leery about the pre-packaged meat as opposed to the stuff they package in the store, but do not know if that is really a problem either

Could you return it? If not, you can smoke it for pastrami, check out this website:

Never...
The brisket has already been corned. Follow the instructions on Thirdeye's site and make some pastrami.
Then cook some hamburgers and make pastrami burgers.
Grrrrrrreat!

Oh boy...
Went to Sam's Club or Walmart, can't remember which, someone had just returned a packer. We were in the store about 1.5 to 2 hrs and when leaving we saw that brisket still in the shopping cart at customer service.
We wondered how long it has been in the customers shopping card, customers car, home and car before being returned and sitting in the cart at the store. Now it is possible the store tossed the meat but the thoughts of that being put back in the case was a bit much.
I guess that could be been called aged brisket.
Stopped buying our meat at Sams & Walmart after that experience.

You can return meat? I guess I never thought about it.... I've taken the label to stores a couple of times when I wasn't satisfied. Sam's has a 200% guarantee, but I've never needed to use it.
So, are you thinking it was bad, or someone just decided to return it like it was a shirt that was the wrong size?Happy Trails~thirdeye~Barbecue is not rocket surgery -
The good thing about the corned brisket, it should have a long "use by" date on it, so you won't be rushed to cook it.Happy Trails~thirdeye~Barbecue is not rocket surgery

No idea why, just that the meat was in the basket for a long time and who knows how long in the heat after purchased to the point of being returned.
As I said the store may have tossed the cut of meat rather than putting it back for sale.
I haven't found any store that consistently has a real nice looking packer down here.
In a few days I'll have a package heading your way - I am trying to locate some fresh packing material before I send it off. I will email when it is in transit.
Have a good weekend.

I would take it back and tell them you bought the wrong thing. Or call first and ask. Tell them you want to buy a regular brisket and see what they say. It depends on the store, they might have no problem with it.

my wife went to return it - she told me it was no big deal
since shes not back yet, I assume it went well

My 1st brisket, was a corned beef brisket....I had no idea what it was when I bought it and thought it was really odd tasting. It was still good, but it was stringy....Live and learn! :laugh:Hunting-Fishing-Cookin' on my EGG! Nothing else compares!
