Turbinado sugar not sticking to butt ...

Everything else in my rub stuck to the mustard coating but the sugar kept falling off. Paparika, kosher salt and all others stuck great ... everything was a fine grind but the sugar. This was my first time with T-Sugar .. normally use plain white. Can anyone help here? Nature Boy - you're the spice master ... should all spices be the same size ... ie - should I run the whole thing through the coffee grinder? Please help - I have my first competition in less then 3 weeks - I'm getting nervous.

    Smoked Signals,
I always put everything back through the spice grinder, including the sugar and it works great.[p]Hope that helps.

Smoked Signals, i usually put the rub directly on the meat, rub it in, then mustard coat.the sugar will stick to the fresh mustard coating, and you may want to add more rub. you could also mix the sugar directly into the mustard, then apply

    Smoked Signals,
Nature Boy is on top of a Colorado mountain at the moment, and will be back next week. I lot of his rubs has turbinado sugar in them, and in the stuff I use they are normal size bits, unground. You might try sprinkling on the sugar and letting it sit for 10 minutes before turning over to do the other side. That will give the sugar a chance to absorb a littel moisture from the meat, and more of it will stick. [p]Brett

Yellow mustard and then rub. Makes a nice bark and the rub sticks no matter whats you got in there.[p]Frosty Ones!

    Smoked Signals,
I grind my spices - including the turbinado - in either a blender or in my mortar and pestle. I tend to grind to a fine powder then run the powder through a sieve, returning anything that doesn't pass through the sieve to the grinder. A fine powder tends to stick better.

Smoked Signals, try spreading the sugar out on a pan for about 10-15 minutes to dry it out. It will stick better when dry.
