XL lid problem

I'm having trouble getting my XL lid to close all of the way in the back. I've tried adusting the band and the spring bolts, but nothing is helping, the gap is approximately 1/2 inch. The top band is bent, and I'm not sure if this is causing the problem or not.

    Probably the cause. Can you adjust the loosened band up on the dome and down on the base? Give that a shot, might need some wedges or clamps to hold them in place while you tighten. Try and spread them as far apart as you can.

    I kinda figured it was because the band was bent. I've tried adusting both top and bottom bands all over the place, but it keeps slipping back everytime I open it.

    Get some help, some screwdrives, wedges, or pieces of wood for that matter, and use it around the egg to keep those bands as far apart as possible, while you tighten the bolts. Hopefully you can bend the band back into original shape by using the egg as a shaper.

    Thanks for all your advice. If all else fails, a new hinge and band set is reasonable.
