I was moving around the lump prepairing for last nights cook when I noticed a crack runing from top to bottom on the firering. Is this common? I have only had my XL for 4 months.

That sounds pretty quick. I've had my large for at least 4 years now, and I just noticed the first crack in my firebox on Thursday last week.
The good news is that it should be covered under warranty. Call your dealer and ask for a replacement.

It is common, it is harmless, it is nothing to worry about, it will not cause any functional problems, and it is a warranty item.
