Hey All,
I'm doing my first brisket today- low and slow.
Did a rub last night, and have it on today for two hours so far-
QUESTION: IS IT A BAD IDEA TO PUT BEER / COKE, ETC INTO THE DRIP PAN? I did this, but worry that it could burn and ruin the taste of the brisket-- thanks, seemed like a good idea at the time

People do this sometimes, but there really is no need. The egg will keep it plenty moist. Apple juice or apple juice vinegar is a popular choice.

Not sure if it is a bad idea, but at the very least it is a waste of beer. I suppose if it was coke, the sugar could burn once all the liquid is evaporated, but can't imagine it would be enough to ruin the taste of a brisket. Can't imagine it would help either. Use water if you must have liquid.
Easiest way to ruin the taste is to put too much smoke on it. Make sure and get your smoke clean before putting that beauty on!
Have fun

Thanks- you guys are awesome. I put a pretty large drip-pan in, and basically put added a can of beer and a can of coke- not as much to keep the brisket moist, but i thought the combo might add a nice subtle bit of tangyness to it- so, the question is, should i remove the pan?? I'll be opening the top at some point anyway, as I'm way too new to this to not at least have one peek.

Welcome to the forum. Nature Boy knows what he is saying.
Take a look at his site and while you are there look at some of his rubs. Every one is excellent IMHO.
Here is a link Brisket
also some more great brisket information The Ramblings of a Briskateer
As for me well, so far I can only dream of these two guy's brisket results. This tasted great but it sure isn't what the others have to show.

The coke has the sugar.

Sure I am way late, but bo, don't remove the pan. Once the liquid evaporates the fat dripping into it will bubble up (with a little of the sugar in your coke) and the whole pan will get black and crusty, but it does not hurt anything.
Happy cookin
