My evening with Anthony Bourdain

mad max beyond eggdome

so last night for my birthday, the spawn and i had tickets to go see anthony and bourdain down at the warner theater. .. .he is doing this speaking tour where he basically sits up on stage for a couple of hours and talks food, travel, eating, philosophy, a little BS. ...answers questions. ...he was very funny, very engaging, very thoughtful. .. . at one point (remember this is washington dc), some woman asked him his thoughts on the immigration laws in arizona. ..the crowd started to boo this woman, but tony actually took the question and gave a great answer. ...did the same with a couple of other questions as well. ...unfortunately, we weren't able to get pics or autographs with him, cause they had sold special tickets to a few hundred people before i found out about last night that entitled those people to an after event meet and greet with him. ...it was still a great evening, and if he is coming to a theater near you, i would strongly recommend going. ..

now, the funny part of this evening, was i had raised my hand a couple of times to say something/ask question, but never got called on, and when the evening was over, the two women sitting next to me, asked me what i was going to ask. .. i said "oh, i was going to say something about the way he inspired me to make my turduckhen lasagna .blah, blah,blah, and oh btw, i cooked it on a big green egg"...and this woman says "OMG, my husband and i own a big green egg!!". .. go figure!!....they aren't on the forum here, but may be now that i've finished with them!!! ... .(mad max strikes again LOL) ... .anyway, a couple of pics of tony in prime form. . ..

Max, what an awesome birthday gift! Your daughter knows you so well, sounds like a great evening. He was out here last year and we regretably did not go, but if he comes around again, I defitinetly will. Love him. Thanks for sharing.

Max, that's a great Bday present. I have read his books and watched his "No Reservations" show, and I think he is hilarious. I'm glad you enjoyed the show.

If anyone has a long drive/flight and wants a good book on CD, I recommend "Kitchen Confidential", written by Boudain and read by him too - sure makes the trip go by faster (it's free if your library has it).

What a nice way to celebrate your birthday. Tony and Eric had a radio show on Martha Stewart radio channel on Sirius. I looked forward to listening to them. Very entertaining.

Looks as if you had a marvelous time Max. Was Eric Ripert there as a 'good guy' foil to 'bad boy' Tony? Ripert is my favorite chef (other than the chefs on this forum). I always think I've died and gone to heaven when I eat at Le Bernardin.
