Butt and Brisket

Unknown
edited November -1 in EggHead Forum
I am fairly new to the egg and want to cook both a brisket and pork picnic at the same time. I made a lower and upper grill that was shown on this forum and it works great. I just need to know where to place each piece of meat? I will have a drip pan attached and will be using the bbq quru for the 1st time. Do I place the brisket on bottom rack and picnic on top, or vice versa?
On what piece of meat should I place probe for the guru? With the indirect heat, which place gets the hottest temperature?
Many thanks to all you veterans for your help!

TerryinBama,[p]I'm surprised nobody else responded. I would put the butt on top, so its drippings will baste the brisket. As long as you have plenty of ceramic mass between the coals and the brisket, there shouldn't be a lot of difference in cooking temperature between the two. You should probably place your temperature probe in the piece of meat you expect to be done first. That will depend on the relative sizes of the meat and the shape and amount of marbling in the brisket.
