Earthbox garden (Pic hvy)

I finally completed my Earthbox garden. It has been a lot of work, but I am pleased with the results so far. Lots of help from 'Rooster' with the design of the "racks". I got a young friend to build them, but it was tough to find time to prime and then paint after work and while waiting on wind and rain to subside. :(
The plants were about to overgrow before I could get things finished.
Trying to decide what to use to cover the landscape cloth. Too much 'grade' for mulch to stay in place - maybe small gravel. I am also considering an inexpensive small metal fence to surround the whole garden.
8 boxes, 4 racks, slats for supporting plants. Today I installed the Earthbox automatic watering system, which I hope will help reduce the number of squash and zukes I've been loosing....
4 tomato plants, 6 various pepper plants, some okra, peas, beans and 3 boxes with squash/zukes. The old broccoli box will soon be restored with new pepper plants, including ADP's grown from seed supplied by 'lowercase bill' - thanks !
ADP's almost ready for transplant:
First squash and some blooms I saute'd in EVOO after stuffing with some cheese - awesome. :woohoo:
Thanks for looking ........

We bought tomatoes and chilis last month, warmest April in a while, they are no longer with the living after six nights of May frost

I had a similar issue in February when I thought I would plant some spring broccoli and cauliflower. We had several nights of lows in the teens and some snow (very unusual), so I had to bring the boxes under the porch, cover with a ten made of sheets and place a ceramic heater under there. They survived...

I Googled the Farmer's Almanac and I think one other source and found that around April 2 in our area was the point where we had only a 20% chance of a last frost, so I planted accordingly.

Check your email for a warning about NOT heeding your wife's advice! :woohoo:

Thanks, Steve.
This Earthbox thing has been a big project, especially for one not skilled in construction-type things. Only got one numb fingertip (too much spray can painting), some shoes and clothes with black paint and a bruised ego when the wife said she just wished I had done a raised bed garden.
She's gonna like the "fruits" of my labor before too long! -
is that legal???
Nice plants. I will accept overflows of tomatoes :woohoo: -
Think the tomatoes would have a worse traveling experience than a bottle of La Bomba!

I planted mine today, I looked at the weather forecast and went for it. Tomatoes, peppers, and eggplant. Lettuce, spinach and Carrots have been in for a while.
Go for it Stike
Will post some pics when I clean things up. -
If the weather holds, I think you will be in good shape, Cpt'n !

Clark, great looking garden/earthboxes and pic's. You're well ahead of our garden, will post pic's when we have some thing to look at. Hope your fishing trip a few weekends ago was successful.

Thanks, Barry.
Fishing trip - no oil (but I saw yesterday that has changed) :(
it was too windy - 15-20 mph - made teh water too muddy for good trout fishing. We did manage to bring in 10 redfish, 2 nice trout and about 10-12 sheephead. The guide said the marina manager said our boat had the best catch of all the guides that morning! One boat had only 2 trout total for the morning.
Good eatin'..... :woohoo: :woohoo: -
Clark, sorry for the late reply. Haven't heard MS mentioned much re oil coming ashore, but seeing/hearing alot about the marsh problems in LA. Really hope they get this under control soon. They'll have to pull a rabbit out of the hat with some magic to remove the oil from the marsh areas. Fishing results were great considering the conditions. We're big fans of redfish and sheepheads. Haven't eaten that many sea trouts. Good luck with the garden.
