I just talked to woodoggies, who like me, didn't make it with his teamates to the harpoon competition this weekend. . .and like him, none of our teamates (dizzy pig and free rangers) have bothered to call us to let us know what happened. . . .[p]needless to say, woo and max aren't happy campers!!. . .we know that there is no cell coverage at the harpoon valley, but this is ridiculous. . .[p]any body else anything???

mad max beyond eggdome,[p]I stopped in to check on them on my way home from Montreal. We got there mid-day and push was on to finish the presentations. No one had much time to talk as can be expected. Alf need to get a little pat on the head, so we did break Chris's attention for a few seconds. He had a little faux pas with the appearance of his ribs, but otherwise he was feeling good with the q they put up.

Unfortunately, it was a long trip for us back to PA, so we didn't stay long and I have no idea as to results.

I couldn't get over the crowd they had there.... Quite the event.

    QSis,
Way to go guys. I've never done a BBQ competititon, but have doen a lot of food competitions. Anytime you make the sheet of winners or placers, it means a lot of good hard work has gone into it.[p]Grats to all that worked so hard.

  • mad max beyond eggdome,
Free Range BBQ did 6th in ribs and pork, and 13th in chicken and in brisket, for a 4th place overall. Mr Earl was a peerless pitmaster . My daughter Allison was a tremendous help with meat and box prep as well as hand-in. We all had a blast. Nature Boy had to tell me three times that we got fourth place before I would believe it (I'm still learning how to read the printouts they give the teams after the contest). [p]We were set up next to the Dizzypig crew. They took 8th place in brisket and took 14th place overall. The Harpoon folks put on a great competition, and over 3000 people on Saturday. Vermont is beautiful this time of year. We plan on making the long trek back next year. [p]I expect there are many factors that accounted for our surprising showing (alignment of the planets, phase of the moon and so on), but I want to mention the DrBBQ class that I took at Nature Boy's place this spring as one reason for our bit of success this weekend. We are only one of at least 4 teams whose performance has demonstrably improved since that class. Well worth the time and $$ it you can make one. [p]Brett

  • Brett (Free Range),
If you matched Back 40 BBQ's chicken and brisket (both 5h place) with Free Range's ribs and pork (both sixth), we would have had one awsome team score!

JSlot,[p]I don't know how close to the Grindstone Mr. Earl's nose really was. I seem to recall him sniffing around my Tequila bottle a time or two. ;)[p]Steve
