...out of business?
i don't have anything critical to worry about, but my cast iron grate is cracked maybe 50% of the way across, and my firebox is in multiple pieces.
the firebox is already a replacement. i was lucky enough to score one of the 'unbreakable' iterations that they (BGE R&D) were testing, and lo and behold it still broke (but only after a few years). it's not nearly as broken up as my first one was, and since i got it gratis as a test versioion, i am not complaining.
just wondering how to go about getting replacement parts if i should need them. the closest dealer to me always seems confused when i ask a question, and the next nearest didn't know what a platesetter was...
whattaya think?

Any good dealer should take care of you. If not just go right to the source and steal one of Maineggs
 -
You don't live in southeast PA by chance?
-
I've been trying to make friends with a new dealer down my way...problem is I don't really need to buy anything right now. They are now stocking wicked good and some various wood chunks, though I'm loaded up on shag bark and some crabapple wood right now. my dealer is out of business as well.
This place seems pretty good and is starting to get into the egg. They are a patio stone/outdoor center type of place, but they are getting into the cooking thing and thinking of doing some demos. They are going to feature an egg in an outdoor setup as well.
Not sure this helps as it still would be a drive for you, but the place is called backyard living in Abington ma. -
well. like i implied. i don't HAVE a good dealer. and i don't wanna have to drive three hours for a fire grate.
hahaha -
nope
-
might work...
thanks -
Why do dealers not know what a plate setter is? I should be a dealer in that area, that is what I think.

The drawback to dealing direct with the mothership is having to pay the freight but at least the parts are still free. Sounds like the perfect location for someone to start a dealership unless warranties are the only things through the doors.

DUDE! The first thing you do is go see what kind of fire sale they are having! You go buy all of there inventory and make yourself a happy egger!! -
If you came down sometime I could introduce you to my dealer, Kirley Masonry in Mansfield. only an hour each way or I could bring up spare parts when I come of a Fred's Frank!
-
maybe i'll hit kirley before a Patriots game. hahaha
i thought of them. just sucks that i gotta drive a couple hours when i have a dealer a mile away.
i have heard good things about kirley.
i find it odd, though, that no one from BGE has chimed in. -
You are more knowledgeable than most dealers anyway. The closest one can serve as merely an access point. It is his duty to get the warranty parts in at no cost to you. Tell them what you need, and if they don't respond accordingly, call the mothership to complain. My 3 cents.

Stike,
BBQ Barn in Arlington is decent, in my experience.
Who went out of business?
-John -
they sell gassers, and "oh, that's a big green egg. the guy here who knows about them isn't in today..." that sorta thing
-
the mothership (john) sent me this current firebox, and it was free, plus no shipping (was a test model). i feel a little on the fence about trying to exercise my "warranty replacement" options.

although i know that going to a dealer ultimately costs BGE HQ anyway. -
they stopped selling BGEs is what i should have said. still open. and it was about 8 years ago they dropped the BGE. more profit in giant hollow stainless gassers
-
yeah. yer right...
thx -
if you go to the BGE home site and look up the dealers within a 25 mile radius you'll find 11 of them. Doh!
-
will look into BBQ Barn. Arlington isn't so far after all.
the place i originally got the BGE from was a Fence and Stove Shoppe in NH. they are still there, but don't sell the BGE any longer -
that's probably 10 more than when i got the egg... hahaha
-
In a 300 mile radius of me there are 5. Limited options that is...

Went into the closest Ace and they have 2 large, 2 medium, a small, a mini and a chimena. Really nice display as you walk in the store. Last time I was in there they had a large and a medium. I got home and in my mail was a 2 page flyer, from Ace, it was all webers, nothing else. I don't get it. This is the same store that called me to see if they could give my # to a potential buyer of a large....hahahaMolly
