Hey Robert! congrats on the baby coming
My son "stole" one of our eggs for cooking at their house while his girlfriend was pregnant with our grandson. she had the same problem. we found that by moving the egg back from the house and making sure it really was clear as far as smoke when he put the food on helped big time. he also started using the weed burner to light the egg. it is much faster and did not smoke as much coming up to temp. cowboy or wickedgood lump do not seem to be as smoky lighting and burning. but do not push it if that does not work LOL 28 years ago I got sick from the smell of pork roast cooking when I was preg with my son... it was 11 years before I could cook pork with out getting sick :pinch:

Thanks Julie... I appreciate the tips. Also, great thread you started this morning.
I did move it a few weeks back on a slow and low and that seemed to help a little (but our backyard is tiny) - did some pulled pork for poker. I have a mapp torch and that helps, but I like watching the fire - I guess am part caveman! :P
Oh no, I hope she will not follow you on the 11 year thing... She will not really touch any pork or beef right now, heck not even BBQ chicken, only ChickFila. -
when I first started egging I stunk of smoke all the time! opening and closing and checking and looking down the daisy wheel LOL
now I hardly touch it. not sure if I am just used to the smell or really am not soaking in it like when I started. and by really taking that extra time before putting food on you do not get the smoky taste either. I like it on some things but I want to taste the food too not just smoke. when is the baby due? this is a fertile forum this year I believe there are a couple of eggers with "minis" on the way  -
In late September... True, I saw someone was due around Thanksgiving and i believe another one also, can't remember who...
