Pics Of First Cook Ever

I want to first thank everyone who helped me with photo process yesterday. My first cook on the egg was this past weekend. Just wanted to post a few pictures of the cook. The first pic is just embarrassing. A clean looking egg. They should sell them dirty and smokey smelling when new. Looks like amature hour after that pic!

Finding the correct temp on the egg was the hardest part of the cook. What can I say, I'm a rook. I used a pizza sheet wrapped in tin foil for indirect heat. Works just as good as the plate setter! (Just Joking) I know I'm a idiot for not buying the platter setter with the initial puchase. I recieved the beer can chicken holder as a present. So I figured beer can chicken would be my first test on the egg. Realizing I had some extra room on the grill I added some drummies. Poked the probe in the top part of the chicken downwards. Placed the alarm on the outside of the egg and came back when the alarm went off. Hit 180 degrees. Brought the wonderful looking chicken back in the house and started to cut it up. I soon realized that the chicken was still light pink. Not to happy at this point. Stupid thermometer. Never seemed to work right on my old smoker either. Put the chicken back on the egg for another 20 minutes in direct heat. Second attempt success! Just had the drummies for a appitizer until the beer can chicken was done.

So here is my first cook on the egg! The taste was unreal. Never had that moist of food ever! New meaning of eating chicken. Can't wait to try what's next!

Looks great. You will get better with your temp
control as time passes -
Congrats! Awesome first cook.

Looks like you went from "New Egger" status to "Senior Egger" with just that cook!

Great job!
A little note: If you get your temp probe working well and are sure of the internal temp, then you can be certain that your chicken is done, even though it may have some pink color. Smoked chicken can have a pinkish color, especially near the bone. Touch the pink juice with a white napkin or paper towel. If it stains clear, your OK, if it stains pink - you need to cook a little longer.
Good luck. Now you need to get a Thermapen instant read thermometer to spot check you cooks. They are a little pricey, but THE BEST ! www.thermoworks.com -
When the inside of the egg is black, you will have a better idea of temp control. Enjoy the learning process, It's a fabulous and fun journey that we all embark on. Cook looks good, but will pale by comparison to what you will do by July 4th. Congrats on your new purchase. Enjoy.

Great answer, that's why I was reading the whole thread to see if someone would mention the pink Meat but the juice should be clear.
I have hard time do to a color vision problem but do know of the facts. Great answer.
