Crimsonsmoke

I wanted a boat, but the wife negotiated me down to small BGE to go with the Large (Big Al). Need a name for the small. Any suggestions?[p]Question - Is it ok to do trex steaks in a new egg, or should I do some lower temp cooks first. The large had already been well used before I did high temp steaks.[p]Just had to share the good news. Now I'm gonna go put it together so it can be initiated tonight.

crimsonsmoke,
The question of break-in was hotly debated in the last week or two. You might want to go read the thread. It had "seasoning" or "season" in the subject.[p]My opinion is that BGE has never said the egg needs to be broken in, and they are footing the bill for all the cracked fireboxes, so if it were necessary, they'd be telling us. Heck, they'd be shouting it out to us. It seems to me that the Egg should be ready to go when you buy it and that any preparation of the ceramic material would have been done when they fired it, glazed it or performed any other manufacturing process. [p]Your mileage may vary? :-)

crimsonsmoke,
I was in the same boat (as it were). I wanted a nice flat-bottom boat for lake fishing and flounder gigging but ended up with the small egg. Seems good to me![p]I've had it through the paces from low-n-slow to lava temps and all seems well. I discovered that a Weber Smokey Joe grid makes a nice secondary when used with split fire bricks for elevated grid cooking. And ... I'm sure it will work well at the NCSU tailgate parties this fall.[p]Doc

FatDog,[p]Flounder gigging....I actually did that once and it was a blast. Got several really nice fish and it was a great experience for a "yankee" from NJ. Just thinking about it makes me want to give it another shot. [p]Chuck

Chuck,
If you have a boat, I'll find the time. Come on down. I guess I could take a d#*& yankee fishing! (Sorry, but I was 18 years old before I found out that D#*& and Yankee were two separate words - LOL![p]Doc
