How You Can Order La Bomba Sauce and More About It

Hi everyone,

There have been a lot of posts and questions about La Bomba, which got me curious about this sauce. I live in the Little Italy section of Boston, so I hit the street to do some research.

This sauce comes from the Calabria region of Southern Italy and is commonly referred to as Bomba Calabrese. The key ingredient is the Calabrian hot cherry pepper. Other ingredients include olive oil, mushrooms (Lactarius deliciosus), eggplant, artichokes, salt, vinegar, garlic, black pepper, oregano, and bay leaves.

In my neighborhood, you can purchase this at Saulmeria Italiana. For those of you not in Beantown, you can order it online from them http://www.salumeriaitaliana.com/catalog/pantry/antipasti/bomba-calabrese ($7.50/one 6.34 ounce jar made by Coluccio). If you are in Wisconsin you can also purchase this here:

However, this is not the same brand that many people refer to on this forum. I have not tried the forum's preferred version of this sauce.

The brand many people on the forum mention is Aurora Allessia La Bomba (http://www.auroraimporting.com/catalogue/?b2_catalogue_productSearchID=2248&category=51). Aurora is actually a Canadian company, but they have been granted permission to export some products to the US, including La Bomba. La Bomba is available from them directly. You can reach them by e-mailing Garry Janda. His e-mail address is gofast at simcoe dot net. A case of 12 10 ounce jars cost $84US plus $34US for shipping, or you can order only 6 Jars for $48US plus $22US for shipping. However, many forum members have mentioned that these jars have poor seals and tend to leak during shipping. You can also supposedly order this from Greco Imports in Chicago, but their e-mail account does not work and their website does take on-line orders. You can call them at (630) 221-1001 to inquire.

Happy Egging!
