I posted a few days ago for a baked beans recipe and got a few, I am wondering about the recipe that I got that has apple pie filling as an ingredient. Wouldn't this make it to sweet!! Want that recipe that has pork in it, molasses, bbq sauce and a little bite, would think the apple would make it to sweet but just wondering what you all thought.

I've made that recipe using cherry pie filling and it was excellent. -RP

yes i dont doubt that it is good, just wondering if it is more of a sweet bean recipe?? I am not looking for the sweet bean sauce, looking for that little bite and thick sauce. Maybe this is it but is it sweet?

Seems way too sweet for my taste. I like a little maple syrup or brown sugar in my beans, but I find most canned beans too sugary anyway.
-
Actually it isn't sweet at all if you use the Blues hog BBQ sauce...it has quite a lot of heat with all the other ingredients...we make it with either Peach or Apple pie filling and everyone loves it...

I used that recipe and used a BBQ sauce that had a good bite to it and it made for a spicier taste. I think I used Famous Dave's.

I've never had any leftovers and no complaints of it being too sweet, just a few complaints of it being too spicy. -RP

sounds good, i will give it a try, that way i will know for myself, i am sure i will love it!

Some sweet will come from BBQ sauce and molasses. I looked at the recipe and put it on my "to cook list" I like homemade beans but not canned.

There's a reason so many people on this forum (and on other forums) recommend that recipe every time someone asks for a beans recipe. It is good.
If you're concerned about the sweetness then add half a can. You can always add more as you go, or omit it altogether.
I responded to your original request with my modifications to that recipe. It has a nice heat if you add a Tbsp or so of ancho chili powder and use the right bbq rub and sauce. -
Thank you fidel, i will give some ancho a try. Thanks.
