How do I set up my coals in the egg when I use the Guru or is it just like with out it? The problem I could for see is that there would be fire under the probes or do you always cook indirect.

    jackie,
I think if you are concerned about the probe being over red hot coals and giving a false higher reading, you can take a piece of foil, fold it over several times and make a small shield to slide underneath the probe. Shotgun Fred and I decided to try this for my burntime testing of lump charcoals.[p]TNW

  • jackie, If you are using the meat probe, just clip the pit probe top the base of the meat probe. Another way is to just clip it to the edge of the grill. If you move it over near the edge it will be out of direct heat from the fire. I think the clip on probe is small enough that radiant heat from the fire should not be a problem.[p]Cheers,[p]CB

    jackie,
set up just like you did pre guru. the only change will be the guru controls the temp instead of you. set the temps low so you sneak up on it and then reset to desired pit/meat temps.
as long as you keep the grill temps under 400 there is no worry, if over 400 might have to shield the wires.
