dan h,[p]I prefer chunks. The chips tend to ignite and burn much more quickly, whereas the chunks last longer before starting to burn. [p]Also, don't bother soaking your chunks. I used to do this but realized it was really a waste of time. If you have your vent settings correct, the chunks should smoke just fine. Besides, all a soaked chunk does is give off water vapor before giving off smoke, since water vaporizes at a lower temperature than the volatile compounds which give you your smoke.[p]Just my $0.02.[p]TRex

dan h, I like chunks--if I can get them. But, I can't easily get chunks of pecan, maple, apple, alder etc., so I happily use chips.

dan h,[p]9 times of 10, I use chunks. When I'm grilling steaks or chops, etc., and want a sudden flash of smoke, then I use unsoaked chips.[p]Ken

JSlot,[p]Agreed! They will give a consistent smoke throughout the cook.[p]

BlueSmoke, Steaks are on the menu tonight. Of all your rubs, which one is your favorite on steaks?
-
Borders,[p]I'm a curmudgeon - you got a nice "sector of cow?" Sprinkle lightly with EZ Life and grill it to taste. Good eatin',[p]Ken

Thanks for all the posts answering my question. I will use the chunks from now on.
I own a fireplace store and also sell grills including the Big Green Egg. It is awsome. I have had a lot of gas grills personally and have gotten rid of all but one and is is going up for sale. The Egg is the only way to go.
This is really a great forum.
