Something is wrong with my egg. I cannot keep the temperature up. I tried to light yesterday with a starter and when it went out the egg went under 200 and I had the vents open all the way. What is the problem? Help

AKA
New BobJim,
Sounds like airflow, I would clean it out, be sure the bottom piece is lined up with the vent opening and start with fresh DRY lump.[p]I take my egg apart now and then and clean all the ash out then put the pieces back in.[p]Good Luck

Jim, how long have you had your egg? are you filling it full up to the fire ring ea time you use itas you should?
-
Chet,
I have had it for a number of years. Never had this problem. I wonder if the bottom has somehow shifted and the airflow is not working properly. +

Bad lump?
-
Jim,
possible cause
very high humidity
damp lump
the firebox is misaligned
fire grate holes are blocked[p]if you cant find it from this list, try new dry lump and clean your grill compleately, remove fire box. then align hole with lower vent.

jwitheld,[p]I think you've covered all of the bases.... check the firebox holes, as well....... unobstructed airflow equals hot fire.
