mini vs small

Hello all,
I've been considering purchasing a mini for a few weeks now. I already own a large, but I'm looking for something that allows me to do quick grills (burgers, hot dogs, chicken) for 3 after work. Would a mini be appropriate for what I want to do or should I step up to a small?[p]One more thing, where do you suggest I purchase one. BBQs Galore (in Dallas) told me they don't sell either one of those sizes. I'd really like to see a mini or small in person, but I'm having problems tracking down anyone that stocks or sells them in Dallas.[p]Thanks in advance for your comments.
Anthony

    ajw1976,
I own a small. The grid is 13 inches or so across. You can do a lot on a small that you might not be able to do on a mini. The small and large make a nice pair. Tonight I did a tomato tart (Yeah, Gretl!!) on the small while doing a prime rib roast in the large. You don't sound like you want to be able to carry the smaller cooker around on your back, like for camping etc., so I'd say if it fits your budget, get the small.

ajw1976,[p]Try Jackson Lemmon Avenue Pottery. They sell the small but may not have it in stock. It is one Lemmon across from the new air museum at Love Field. Next to Sewell Infiniti

ajw1976,[p]I have a large and a mini and love the mini, but the cooking area is quite small. I would not get rid of the mini, but am consitering adding a small! [p]The mini is perfect for two or three steaks, a few burgers, chicken pieces (two breasts), etc. It is very portable and great for a romantic picnic, over-night camping and soforth. I use it often when just cooking for myself, or just a small, quick dish for the wife and I.[p]For other things, it's far from ideal. Low and slow (while doable) is not convenient or very practicle. Also, due to it's size, it sits low to the ground. When (and if) I get the courager to buold a table, I would love for it to have it's own space.[p]My 2 cents![p]
  • ajw1976, I agree with all thats been said. I have mini and large. I got the mini for camping, but use it at home all the time for burger, etc. I can cook 5 burgers, a couple packs of dogs, 4 filets, ribeyes, etc. with no problem. It does it quickly with very little lump used. However, If I did not buy it originally for camping, portability , I would get the small because there are just more things you can do on it in the long run. Good luck.

  • ajw1976,
The small. The mini is great for portable things outside of the house, and for a 1 or 2 person dinner. But for the extra $$, go for the small for more flexibility. [p]And avoid americasbestbbq.com for your purchase.
