One of our many local micro-brewerys won first place at the world brewers cup. The Alchemist brewery, in Waterbury Vermont, created a barley-free, gluten- free beer which apparently is great. It is made with sorghum. Two other Vermont breweries won prizes as well. We have 21 micro-breweries in Vermont - more per capita than any other state. If anyone loves beer out there   you could plan a really great summer tour for vacation! :P

Hi Julia! My daughter got diagnosed with (I can't spell it) Sillyaks Disease about a month ago after years of stomach problems. She'll be happy to know about the gluten free beer...not that I'm encouraging her to drink :silly:

Oh, how I miss the Alchemist!!! That is one great spot, I also frequented the Vermont Brewery, and often lament the Catamount's passing. God I miss Vermont!

Brian, the owner of the brewery actually created it for his wife who, like your daughter, is allergic to gluten, and also loved beer! :) I don't suppose it will be widely marketed, but who knows...there are alot of people out there who can't have gluten.

Home brewing, much like Egging, can become addictive. I'm balancing my time spent in the basement making beer and my back porch cooking. ;) :P Seeing the YouTube video posted by Photo Egg confirms that microbrewery isn't very far removed from their homebrewing days. Good for them!

I've been GF for about a year and feel a whole lot better, but it can sure be a bit of a challenge sometimes. I can't tell you how nice it was to discover GF beer last summer.
