  • I just called my sister-in-law, who lives outside of Kingsport and asked her. She said "if'n he wants good BBQ, tell him to go back home. There ain't nothin' what resemble BBQ in Kingsport".

I got my wife to translate that. Apparently, there are no good BBQ restaurants in Kingsport. She said that if you like meat, The Chop House is your best bet. Kind of expensive, and doesn't resemble BBQ, but it's edible. Not sure what "expensive" means.

Make the trip to nearby Ridgewood BBQ. My parents and many others rave about the place and from the looks of the shanty, I can't wait to try it one day.

  • Ridgewood is definitely the way to go! My husband grew up in Bluff City (next to Bristol) so we have been there several times on visits. It is usually crowded and whenever I've been there a line out front waiting to get in. Their barbecue pork is sliced super thin rather than pulled and it has an excellent smoke flavor to it! But yes, it is a very old building (I think it's been there forever...outdoor plumbing added) that looks like it is coming out of the side of a hill. I have never bothered to get their beef BBQ b/c I think Tennessee BBQ is all about the pig! I always order a pork barbecue sandwich with slaw on it and of course an order of their hand-cut french fries. Pardners is okay too but not nearly as good as Ridgewood.
