Reciprocating Dingle Arm Question

This is probably the best description of a reciprocating dingle arm's main function I have ever heard.

the most interesting thing for me when i first learned about this 30 yrs ago, was that a couple of GE engineers managed to get an authentic-looking spec sheet for the turboencabulator included in the GE reference manual
