Cool Down
Luder
Posts: 31
I just purchased my first BGE this past week and fired it up for the first time last night. After cooking a pork loin that came out tender, I shut the unit down. After a couple of hours, I wanted to cover the new Egg to keep it like new, but the internal temperature was still @ 200. Man that baby can really maintain its heat. Can I put the insulated cover on when it is still this hot or will it damage it?

Luder,
I usually wait until I can put my hand on the Egg and leave it there. I've no idea how hot the cover will tolerate, but I figure if it's touchable, it's ok.

Luder,I used to put my cover back on when I finished cooking and the Egg was 350, but I noticed the cover was looking a little "limp" around where daisy touches the cover.

I didn't want to have to wait hours before I could cover mine so I constructed a crude "shell" made out of chix wire that I place on top of my EGG so the cover doesn't touch it and I can throw it on when it's still 300+ degrees.

Luder, You mean were suppose to keep it looking clean???[p]

Luder, in the past all my covers tend to end up lying beside the cooker instead of over it. So I didn't even buy one with the egg...hell, I don't ever let it cool off enough to cover it anyway! Keep it hot-keep it cooking![p]H. Jass[p]
