Weird question here, any advice on what to use to boil water with chicken in it on the egg, i have copper bottom pots but don't want to melt the plastic handle or scuff the bottom of the pans.

peace love and the big green egg

  • 1st If I was going to boil water(with or without the chicken) I probably would do it on my stove.
2nd If my 'plastic' handle was not able to handle 212* I wouldn't boil water in it, +or- *depending on your altitude.
3rd if worried about scratching the bottom to the copper pots I'd hang them on the wall and not use them.

    Hope this helps.
  • the reason why i want to boil on the egg and not my stovetop is because i am trying to prepare for an eggfest and want to make the dish completely on the egg and have all my steps working in order with the tools that i will have at the fest.
  • Maybe use a different pan to boil the chicken???? No plastic handle or copper??? Wally World probably has one for less than the cost of a chicken.
  • I cooked rice in a sauce pan with a plastic handle on the Egg…Once.
I didn’t have any problem, but as Hoss said, go with Cast.
I now have a CI Dutch oven and a roaster that I use all the time. Hard to go wrong with cast.

Go buy a cast iron pot and use that.

blindmelon...Don't overthink the eggfest thing. A lot of people bring things pre-prepped. For example, if you are doing chicken quesadillas, not a problem bringing shredded chicken ready to go. Just make sure you keep it properly chilled, and you would be good to go! Hope this helps a bit. There isn't going to be "Egg Police" there to make sure you do EVERY component of your cook on the egg....
If you insist though,. as Hoss said, Cast Iron Dutch Oven. (probably will get the best results with the DO directly on the coals for the fastest boil). ;)
