well, i did it last night, escargot on the egg. . .they were delicious. . .i set up the egg at 425 degrees with plate setter in feet-down. .. [p][p]here's the ingredients. ..snails, butter, shallots, parsley, and the shells/escargot plates. . .(i used shallots rather than garlic since my wife can't eat garlic, otherwise, you should use garlic and lots of it). ..[p][p]here they are, butter mixture and snails stuck in the shells, ready to go on the egg. . .[p][p]on to the egg. . [p][p]about 20 minutes later, sizzling and ready to pull off the egg. ..you want the egg hot, but just not hot enough to burn the butter. . .425 - 450 worked perfect. .[p][p]and ready to east with a nice fresh baguette. . .man, they were good. ..the were the appetizer prior to t-rexed steaks for dinner. . .what a meal. .. mad max beyond eggdome, man do those look good! People who turn their noses up to escargot don't know what they are missing. While you went the traditional presentation using the shells, I instead have some small ceramic shell shaped do-dads for the esgcarot that makes for quick and easy preparation plus cooking. Lucky for me as I'm the only one who likes them so I "have to" eat them all. Thanks Max.
-
MMBE:[p]Is that American parsley or cilantro? I can taste that baguette dipped in escargot sauce now!

mad max beyond eggdome,[p]Man they look good. I will definately have to give them a try.[p]Hey, where has Spawn been? I thought she was going to start posting her culinary escapades.[p]Chuck
-
mad max beyond eggdome,[p]that is just tooo good. Any chance of you making that for us at New Holland this year.[p]I can do those oyster mushrooms. Brett can bring a nice Champage and we're all set dude.[p]
-
Rumrunner,
thanks dude. . .i'm workin on it. ..
-
RRP,
i'm just lucky that we never, never throw anything away. . .i've had those shells and plates/utensils since mom and dad bought them when we lived in france back in 66'. . ..the shells actually clean up real easy in soap and water. . not sure where you would even buy them today, since restauraants have stopped using them (most use the ceramic things like you have) due to health dept. issues. ..its a little more work, but it helps make for the whole experience. . ..
-
Chuck,
they were good!!. . .spawn has been busy with end of school year and working on tech crew at a local theater production. .. .she will start queing soon as we plan to have her enter the kids q' competition at new holland in august. . .but just last week i was running late at work and asked her to fire up the egg so that it would be all ready for me when i got home. . .she did great. . .[p]thx
-
aka Mr. Earl ,
sounds like a plan to me. ..believe it or not, snails are pretty in=expensive (2.50 per can of 12). ..we could definitely do them up for new holland friday dinner. . .maybe have brett do up some of the stuffed apples of his for a more sophisticated desert offering. .

mad max beyond eggdome,[p]Excellent job on those Freedom Snails![p]Heeee,
Cornfed
-
djm5x9,
just plain american parsley (i guess it also counts as french parsley as that's what they use) . .i think cilantro would be too strong of a taste to mix in with the butter/garlic (or in my case shallots). . .
-
Cornfed,
thanks dude . .. they were yummy!!. . .when it comes to good eats, politics always takes a back seat
-
mad max beyond eggdome,[p]Amen. And seriously, those look good. I just wanted to make a joke on the ridiculous renaming of foot items to freedom-whatevers.[p]Thanks for the pics.

Cornfed,
absolutely taken in the spirit intended.. .and man, damn slow crawlers was tasty!!
-
MMBE:[p]I beg to differ about the cilantro (also known in some regions as parsley), as I love the taste. The American or French parsley has no taste to me and is akin to eating a fine grade of fescue. From what I gather from folks, these two greens have strongly divergent followings . . .

As always, great pics, Max. I like your sense of adventure - I would not have thought to do these on the Egg. But they look awesome. I usually get escargot everytime I go to Ruth's Chris (i.e., once a year). It's a nice rich treat before a juicy steak. Did you just buy the snails at your local grocery store?[p]TRex

mad max beyond eggdome,[p]They loook yummy!! Unfortunatley...[p]THEY ARE SNAILS!![p]
Chubby
I spent most of my money on good bourbon, and bad women...the rest, I just wasted!! -
djm5x9,
i actually love cilantro on many, many things, and i agree that american parsley is pretty tasteless. ..i guess it comes down to what you want to stand out in this particular dish. . .i want to taste the butter/garlic as my dominent flavors.. .i've never had it any other way (although the shallots this time imparted a unique flavor)[p]but heck, give the cilantro a try. ..i wasn't trying to be demeaning, just giving my opinion of what i thought would be the better flavor here . .
-
TRex,
yep, while safeway didn't have them on saturday, harris-teeter did. . .pretty cheap too.. .$2.50 per can of 12. . .[p]you'd probably have to go to a specialty market to find the shells though. .
-
Chubby,
what can i say?. . ..its an acquired taste. . .
-
mad max beyond eggdome,[p]Those snail pics rock! Mrs. GrillMeister would love it![p]Thanks for the idea.[p]Cheers,[p]Ed
-
