Demo Egg use for a cooking contest??

I asked a distributor if I could borrow a demo egg for a cooking contest in Fort Wayne. He gave me some line about none of his eggs being purchased for demos ... therefore he did not want to allow me to use the egg. Do distributors pay less for demo eggs? Are they special in some way?[p]I just hate the fact that I am going to have to lug my egg 5 hours when a perfectly good one is only 2 miles from the contest.[p]Has anyone ever used a demo in a contest ...?? Also, how do I get one of those cool BGE signs to hang in my tent to proclaim the good news of eggin for all to see??

    Smoked Signals,
Well, I guess you gotta kind of put yourself in the distributor's shoes. Why should he lend you and egg? What do you have to offer? If you can convince them that you can promote his business for his sacrifice, then you might be onto something.[p]Also, just wondering why loading up an egg and driving it 2 miles is any easier than loading one up and driving the 5 hours you wll be driving anyway. Perhaps two eggs would serve you better for the contest anyway. Bring yours, and convnce him that you can promote his business, for a loaner egg. Then you will have 2 cookers to work with![p]Good luck![p]Chris

<p />Smoked Signals,[p]We're all lugging our personal BGE's out to our competition this weekend. They fit nicely in my Tahoe and with the Egg Transporter, they don't weeble, wobble, or fall down.[p]The folks in Atlanta provided a BGE banner to me last year for the first Texas Eggfest and I've been using it ever since.[p]G

  • GrillMeister,
I need to make one of those gadets ... do you have blueprints? I'm sure they would fit in the Town and Country Van as well.[p]Very cool.
    Thanks,
    Doug

  • Nature Boy,
I see your point.[p]I was hoping he would do all the heavy lifting and transporting. Not that I can't .. just looking for the easy way out.[p]Maybe he will stop buy to check me out and I'll be set for next year.[p]Thanks,
    Doug[p]

  • Smoked Signals,
I may be off a bit on this. But the way i understand it, dealers don't get a discount for products that they use as a demo. Its just a normal part of their inventory that they use to promote their product. Sometimes, like at EggFest, they sell the demos as a means of advertisement and a way to cut their losses by using a new product for demoing. Usually this is at or near the dealer cost. Sometimes below if your lucky- like if the store will no longer be carrying them.
Now, if you had been a known winner of BBQ competitions, then there might be a chance to get a demo- because your fame would draw attention to the Egg, and wth a banner of sorts saying who you got it from, would stear people to the place where the gold medal in brisket (or whatever) got his grill.
But many places do different things.[p]

  • GrillMeister,[p]Good morning,
Those are strickly for transport, correct. Do you have a blue print? What is the best size for transporting. I own a large but I want to share what I have by taking my egg on tour with my relatives on holidays. I am looking for maybe a small. (weight is the main factor) I will be doing the packing up and unloading by myself. Any thoughts would be appreciated.[p]Louisiana Redneck

You are gonna get lots of questions about the Egg. Offer to pass out his business cards or Egg brochures with his info printed on them in exchange for the use of an Egg. That's a win-win situation. We always ask the dealers that help us out to participate with us and eat dinner on Friday night as well. Good luck in your competition!![p]Jim
  • JSlot,
Do you think I should go back to him again - even after he said no? I was working a spin similar to what you purposed. I was willing to hang a sign and pass out anythig he wanted. I should have thrown in free meat. If he was a real egger that would have closed the deal. ;-)[p]I bet he stops by to check me out. Maybe I'll give him a bite of the winning ribs. Maybe.

Smoked Signals,[p]If it was me (Dept. of Unsolicited Advice), I'd get back to him: explain that you expect lots of interest in the BGE and probably won't have time to field it all - "would it be okay if I put up a sign referring people to you?"[p]Ken

Louisiana Redneck,[p]These are strictly for transport. Not too hard to make. Check out the link below for how to make one for the small. Use these diminsions for a large. Both are for eggs with spring hinges.[p]25"x25 plywood
    12" 2x4 sections
cut a 20.25" diameter hole in one

    Smoked Signals,
For what it's worth, I am going to have my egg at contest in Ft. Wayne this weekend. I also spoke to the dealer about puting a banner up or getting some pamplets to hand out or something to help the cause, they said they wern't interested? I relly think we are going to get a lot of questions. The dealer in Ft. Wayne is into the really big and really expencive gassers, they really don't push the eggs(I am trying to convert them though).[p]I will look for you and help you get your egg in place, we are supposed to be set up by 9:00AM. Hopefully the weather holds out.

  • GSHELL,
Its only a Medium and after looking at the Grillmeisters set up, I'm making a trip to the hardware store. I'm making a basket (well okay a box) for egg. However, I won't turn away any help. See you there.[p]Egg vs Egg ... hmmmm.

  • Smoked Signals,[p]Now, if it were me and considering my vengeful nature, I would make up a banner advertising the dealer from whence I had purchased the egg. Let people know that he was a great person to deal with and had gone out of his way to make the purchase pleasant.[p]Pete
