Temp control on small vs large

On my large, I have no trouble controlling temps doing indirect cooks. However, on the small I seem to have trouble holding above 310 for any length of time once I load up my indirect setup and start cooking. Maybe an issue of airflow? Anyway, just wondering if any of you small eggheads have any special tricks to maintaining higher temps.

MerlinEgger,[p]Restricted airflow is a normal suspect, so let's go down that road. Would you describe the indirect setup, or better yet, have a picture?[p]Things to review ...[p]1) What's the distance between the inner wall of the fire ring and the outside edge of the whatever you're using for indirect? A minimum gap of an inch is a good thing.[p]2) Whether using a direct or indirect setup, the small's temperature can be effectively managed by leaving the top open (no daisy wheel needed) and just mainpulating the draft door (bottom vent). Are you using a daisy wheel? If so remove it.[p]3) Make sure the "airflow opening" for the firebox is aligned with the draft door opening.[p]Hope these thoughts may trigger an answer for you.[p]Puj
