July issue of money magazine lists their "best" outdoor cookers. . .of course, they focused on gassers, but in the charcoal area, they listed 'best smoker' as our very own big green egg. . .they say:[p]"wood chips will create smokiness in any grill. but serious smokehounds should consider the aptly named big green egg. it's not ideal for items like steaks and burgers, but its ceramic shell is terrific for roasting and smoking."[p]obviously they have never met t-rex and i doubt if they even tried to get up to nuclear temps like we know we can. . ..but then, their 'best' for steaks was a $3,300 golden blount texas sizzler ii that supposedly gets up 1,600 degrees, but even they said "this isn't the best grill for chicken/fish or veggies". . .[p]anyway, it was nice to see old bge getting its due in a magazine like this one. . .

mad max beyond eggdome,[p]So will you be writing MONEY and setting them straight on "steaks and burgers?"
  • mollyshark,

mad max beyond eggdome, Dont forget the send a ribeye along with it!!!

  • Max, hasn't been that long ago that I would agree with the mag about not being the best for burgers and steaks (use to get a mushy texture and couldn't judge doneness)...but since I started doing the dwell "outside" the egg while the temp comes back down, well now I firmly believe it is true to the: "World's Best Smoker / Grill" description. Now, I am in total agreement with anyone who says "it would be hard to say which one the egg is most effective at doing".

Max,[p]I say you write Money Magazine and invite them to reconsider their opinion - offer to have one of the writers of this article over for a steak dinner, and see if he'll submit a correction to the article.[p]I really dislike uninformed opinions, don't you?[p]TRex
  • TRex,

    mad max beyond eggdome,
You should also refer Money's writer to my webpage on TRex's steaks if he thinks we can't grill....[p]This guy probably wouldn't be hurt by a quick read of The Tao, also.... LOL!
