want to attach some shelves to my egg
got some curly maple scraps that i bet would look great
figure i can pick up a piece of 3/4" steel from hardware store & bend to match egg shape & then attach shelves to steel
i see holes in the bottom band that hold the lid on
but if i insert screws from the back side of the band, the screw heads will be pushed in to the ceramic
what am i missing

What you need is some of these

They are the same bolts that attach the hinges to the bands

Can these be purchased from the egg store?Dave San Jose, CA The Duke of Loney

McMaster-Carr has 'em. They're called self clinching studs...
http://www.mcmaster.com/#self-clinching-studs/=605t4bI hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

never seen such a screw
thanks for speedy reply
i'll be placing me a mcmaster-carr order -
Email me your address, and I'll send you some.I have a few extras laying around
-
Good dealers will have them available. Sometimes they tend to snap off when installing, so dealers need to have extras on hand.

thanks to doug for bolts
couldn't find enough curly maple scraps to cover the area needed, even with doing widely spaced slats
did have a cut off of partial curly w/ a knot in it that wasn't quite long enough
so i resawed it then cut it in half to widen it with some walnut
made a matching handle to go w/ the shelves
the brackets were made from some steel i cut & bent from hardware store
didn't realize until after building brackets that the factory shelves folded down
that would be a nice feature
if someone could post a close-up pic of their factory shelves, i could try to mimic the functionality
