New egghead here. I fried the gasket on my new egg & I have a replacement on the way. What if you don't have a gasket? Do you use more lump? So do you need agasket or not? I see some don't care if they have a gasket.

I have two large eggs one has a perfectly good nomex gasket and the other has an old burned up flat virtually non existent gasket and for the most part I see no difference. Given that I do plan to put a new gasket on that egg in the spring when I get around to it. Tim

It depends on what type of cook you are doing.
My large has been without a gasket for quite some time and I have adjusted it one time. Now I have trouble keeping the temp at 250 and I'm sure I have an air leak and that is why I can't keep a low temp. I have no problem at higher temps.
I plan to install a new gasket this weekend.
So the answer is yes and no.

gasket...smashket..Fugettaboutit!Cook and be merry! I'm sure you have important things to worry about.Eggin is a time to be happy and worry-free. B) BTW,if your dome and base are properly alligned no gasket required. If you have no gasket you cannot have a gasket problem. :)Just my thoughts!
