I have already received preliminary approval as a judge in our the KCBS "Grillin' for Life" comp here in October. Had some big name teams last year.

Thanks, Chris. The CBJ number is actually the same as my KCBS member number.

I realize how hard these teams work to produce a top-notch product, so I will keep that in mind whenever judging. I am pretty competitive, so that will push me to become a respected judge!

Trying my first stab at a comp in April. BBQMaven is going to help. We have chosen a small, relatively new local comp (KBCS) and plan to have a lot of fun while getting a feel for how to participate in a comp.

DP Rubs will definitely be participating! :woohoo: :woohoo:

I have contacted 4 different comp cooks to offer my services as a judge.Responses were all polite but basically,We are full now,but if you would like to show up and play maid or valet we might put you on the waiting list for next year!

I got lucky. I "pleaded" with the judge recruiter to let a first-timer have a chance.

I think it was so early (comp is not til mid-October) and he said my app was so early he didn't see any reason I wouldn't be able to judge.

I will look for any more close comps between now and then - will let you know if I see something interesting.

I did a class in Memphis and there were 72 in the class. It was a lot of fun and I definitely learned a bunch. Highly recommended if you plan to compete more.

Whoa, good timing on that post. I just signed up for the two I want to judge this summer. I was #31 of 35 in one, and #18 of 35 in the other.
