No knead Bread & Beer bread

Just got 2 cast iron loaf pans from Lodge and had to give them a try on the BGE.
First of all I cooked a loaf of No Knead Bread in the Dutch oven. Followed by Beer Bread, then I had to try another loaf of No Knead Bread in the cast iron loaf pan.



No Knead Bread
3 cups bread flour
1/4 teaspoon instant yeast (quick rise from Red Star)
2 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
1 1/2 cups warm water (110 degrees)
Mix dough - let sit 12-20 hours
shape/fold cover let rest 2 hours
preheat BGE with dutch oven to 450
bake covered 30 minutes / uncover bake 15-20 minutes until internal temp is 200-210
Beer Bread
3 cups self-rising flour
1/2 cup sugar
12 ounces of beer
preheat BGE with cast iron loaf pan to 350
mix all ingredients - pour into preheated/greased loaf pan
Bake for 1+ hour (internal temp 200-210)

Great looking stuff. I love the lodge cast iron stuff. You just cant beat it.
Question on the beer bread - what does it taste like? Do you actually taste the beer in it? Just curious because it's something I'd love to try, but would want to be careful about who I would serve it to. Just for example, my daughter doesn't like the flavor of beer in cooked foods. -
Those are two of my favorite easy peasy bread recipes and yours look great.

My experience has been the stronger the beer (german lager, etc) the yeastier (is that a word) beer flavor you get. I use Bud or other mundane american beers and do not taste the beer. You may smell the yeast but that should happen with beer bread. But again it will not be strong. I bet if you don't tell no one will know.

Thanks. I was just curious because I used to frequently use beer for cooking and have gotten away from it if my daughter was coming over to eat because she can always taste it, even if I use the "mundane" beers. She just doesn't care for that flavor, and she can always tell me that I put beer in it.
I'll still try it out, but I probably won't serve it to her. At least not without a warning. Of course, she's really into baking so she just might like it in this case. -
Hope I'm not misleading you - It's fun and fast to make - it's also good toasted with butter and honey.

The CI loaf pans from Lodge are great - give them a call @ 423-837-7181 - they only make the loaf pans a couple of times a year. -
Beer bread is great. It is sweet and yeasty.
As others have said, the lighter the beer, the less you taste it. I have made beer bread with Guiness and you really taste it in the bread. I have also used MGD - a littled taste of beer but it comes through as more of a yeast flavor than hoppy.
It is definitely worth a try. -

I love the lodge CI products. I have 2 skillets, a griddle, & an enameled dutch oven. I want to pick up a couple of the loaf pans, another DO to use on the egg, the CI wok, and another skillet too.
