The 73 only has one probe and is $1.00 cheaper at Amazon.

I have the 73 and it does an excellent job of monitoring the meat or the Grid Temperature if I attach an alligator clip to it.

I figure having two probes is worth the additional $1.00.

I ordered one of those because Maverick is such a good name around here....OK OK I ordered two.

I had trouble maintaining the connection between the sensor and the monitor. Even hung the thing on the hook of the door between the inside door and the storm door. Still had sporadic issues. Thinking about pulling out the second one just to see if its a fluke or if I'm remote therm challenged.

My ET-73 has two probes, one for the food, one for the grid temp. Food alarm sounds when target temp is reached. Grid alarm sounds if grid temp gets too hi or too low. Available all over the place for about $40. I just got mine a week or two ago...$42 delivered.

According to Maverick, the ET-7 has two food probes. Don't know why you couldn't use one to monitor grid temp, but it probably doesn't come with a grid clip. Also, I don't believe either ET-7 probe will beep if the temp drops below your target range. It appears that it only beeps when it reaches your target temp.

Could be wrong (it has happened before), but that's they way I understand it.
