Very good Kent! Wow he got way up there at the end.
-
Holy Hannah! That gave me goosebumps!
-
and not ONE of the folks in the background with their hands over their hearts!
The kid was great but the audience was as sad as most of them when it comes to our National Anthem.
At least they were standing. (maybe they didn't have chairs?) -
oh you.
sign of respect. hats off, standing quietly, that sort of thing.
hand on the heart is for the pledge of allegiance. it's not looked down on of course to have your hand over your heart. why should it be? but it's also entirely (and originally) appropriate to stand with your hands behind your back.
be careful when you call folks out on what's appropriate, because there are often other equally appropriate reasons for their actions.
anyway...
anyone notice at the superbowl that half the players and audience had their hands over their hearts before they realized it was "america the beautiful" that was playing and not the national anthem? that's what's sad. of course, i'm sure that in time it will also be required by convention to put your hand over your heart for that, too, unless you want to be singled out for not conforming.
i'll forgive them their being unclear on the concept if someone will forgive me for observing the anthem/pledge/christmas in my own (appropriate) manner.
you still owe me a hot dog.
heh heh heh -
Very well put. Nice to see a little reason injected into this age of little reason.

Aren't off topic posts supposed to go on the off topic forum or do old timers get special treatment?
-
Pound Sand...

People can post here what they want. It's only a few self-appointed who want to impose their rules on the rest of us.
-
Old timers pretty much get to do what they want. Especially when compared to anonymous lurkers.
-

I'm not an old timer on the forum, but thanks for the compliment.
Why don't you post your handle and maybe folks will take you more seriously.
FYI, I do post on the OT forum. A while back the OT forum didn't show up.
Sometimes I will will post something over here if I think it important enough or at times funny enough.
You should have seen the post about the girl I ran into in the super market. If I can find it again I may repost it just for you, right here on this side.be brave and and use your handle.
Kent -
In fact, during the the playing of the national anthem at the Super Bowl they kept cutting to soldiers in the middle east who were tuned into the game. None of them had their hand over their heart. And I'm sure they are well trained on proper protocol.
-
You can bet your bottom dollar on that.
-
exactly. it has never been proper protocol.
the only thing less patriotic than not putting your hand over your heart is putting your hand over your heart and bitching about those that don't
