grease seeping through ceramic???
grilltime
Posts: 3
My egg on the top lid looks like some grease or something is bleeding through the ceramic. It is brownish in color and has a sticky feel too it. It kinda looks like it is beading up on the surface. Is this grease or what? Should I be concerned?

It's normal & nothing to worry about. It usually happens when the egg hasn't been used in awhile and draws damp. The ceramic is porous and as it gets hot, it starts pushing/steaming the moisture out which includes soot and grease. When it looks like it's about stopped seeping and while the egg is still hot, carefully wipe off with a terry rag or something similar. It's tougher to clean when the egg is cold.

Thanks for the info, That makes me feel alot better.
Just had me worried about my egg. -
I had the same thing happen to my large after a series of heavy storms to hit here (Central Coast of Calif). While the Egg was hot, I wiped the sweat off the outside of the dome with paper towels. After the Egg had cooked I wiped the outside of the dome with warm soapy water then rinsed with clear water. Cleaned it right up.
